Working from home can be a really rewarding experience, especially if you can do something you really enjoy or are great at. This can be difficult to find-as with any employment it is not always easy to obtain something you not only find rewarding but enjoy at the same time.
In that vein, why not consider teaching from your home address. It is not as difficult to set up as it may appear or as silly as it sounds. To earn a living from doing this it would be best to avoid home schooling your own children as that does not pay anything other than the reward of seeing your child doing well in what you are teaching them. But it will be nothing like mixing and learning in school with other children.
There are various things you can teach people at your home and it will depend on your skill level and how confident you are at teaching other people to a good standard. There is no point in doing lessons in something you are yourself no good at as people will not be willing to pay you for poor lessons. One of the most popular teaching from home subjects is to teach English to foreign students or immigrants. This is something a lot of people would love to learn but never know how to go about it if they don’t feel confident in a group environment. As everyone learns at their own speed, teaching English as a foreign language would be ideal if you have the patience to repeat what you have previously taught the previous week – as sometimes you will have to!
If you don’t feel confident enough to teach English as a foreign language, there are other things that people would love informal unstructured lessons in. Cookery lessons- this is another good one if you have the facilities for this. You would need to have a large kitchen to fit in people, unless you were going for a one-on-one basis. Then your standard kitchen would do just as well. Make sure what you are going to cook is fairly simple to start with and make up some really clear and simple instructions too that the client can take away with to follow and re-try at home. It will help them as well obviously when making it along with you in your home.
As the student feels more confident with the simple things, you can move on to more complex recipes. If you want to be more specialized you can teach cake making as everyone loves a good cake. Again, start simple – especially if you have enrolled a student who has never made any cakes before. You don’t want to be putting them off before they have properly got started as ongoing clients are good for your business. If you can also include pictures in your instructions as you are going along for when they try and repeat what they have made with you, that will be a refresher and a guide for them.
